Accomplishing peace

Facebooktwittermail

To the Editor:
This week, the world celebrates the anniversary of the historic deal on Iran’s nuclear program. Much of the world, including eastern Iowa and western Illinois, feel safer. What is surprising about this deal is that it was achieved through diplomacy, not war. I now look to Senator Joni Ernst and Senator Chuck Grassley to support this agreement.
Since the deal, Iran has dramatically shrunk its nuclear program and submitted to the most comprehensive inspection regime ever negotiated. If the country makes a move to cheat on its commitments, we will know about it.
In our current climate, some Congress members are urging passage of new sanctions and legislation which will sabotage the deal and reverse progress. We have accomplished peace, but we still need to support this peace. I hope our Iowa members of Congress will realize the gains and oppose any efforts to undermine the deal.
