CLINTON – “Speaking Freely, Vol. 1 – John Perkins on Globalization” is the next film in the Prince of Peace Pax Christi four-part series, From REAL to REEL: a Film Series With a Message. The film will be shown on Tuesday, March 1, at The Canticle, home of the Sisters of St. Francis, 841 13th Ave. N., Clinton, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The evening is free and open to the public.

John Perkins, founder of Dream Change Coalition, spent much of his professional life being an “economic hit man” who persuaded Third World countries to take on large-scale public works projects funded by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which actually only created crippling debt for those countries, effectively turning them into American client states. Experiencing a change of heart, Perkins resigned from the business in 1981. After running a utility company, he founded the nonprofit organization Dream Change Coalition, which works closely with Amazonians and other indigenous people to help preserve their environments and cultures.

There will be discussion and refreshments following the film.  Pax Christi member Gabriela Egging will introduce the film and lead the discussion.
