Iowa Right to Life is sponsoring a statewide Pro-life Oratory Contest for juniors and seniors in high school. Contestants are to research, write and present an original pro-life speech on abortion, infanticide, euthanasia or stem cell research. The speech should address one of these topics directly using other topics only as support. The speech is to be five to seven minutes in length. Contestants will be disqualified for failing to meet time limits.
The contest will be held April 24 at Walnut Creek Community Church, 900 64th St., Des Moines. Registration is 9 a.m.; the contest begins at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration by e-mail, mail or by phone is required.
The winner of the Iowa Contest will give the winning speech at Iowa Right to Life’s “Spring Fling” Saturday, May 8, and advance to the National Right to Life Oratory Contest in Pittsburgh, June 24-26. First prize at NRLC’s national oratory competition is $1,000.
