BETTENDORF — To be better stewards of resources and focus operations in one location, Life & Family Education Trust has put the original Woman’s Choice Center building up for sale.

Christine Schaefer, executive director of The Woman’s Choice Center, said this strategic decision was made last month.

The original center, across from the current center, is rented to a daycare facility, which remains in operation, she noted.

“The mortgage on the original building is paid off. The (current) center we occupy carries debt. As of today, the balance is approximately $680,000. Proceeds from the sale would be used toward reducing the debt on our current facility.”

The current facility, which is the former Planned Parenthood building, “is spacious, and we are committed to using it effectively to serve moms, dads and families in need,” Schaefer said. “At present, only one half of the center is fully utilized, including ultrasound rooms, labs, nursing offices and counseling rooms, administrative offices, social workers’ offices, our resource shopping room and storage.”

“To make better use of the space and enhance the care we provide, we are planning to relocate all medical services and staff to one dedicated side of the building, while consolidating resource services on the other.”

She said, “We are hoping to find a great buyer for our original building and will be expanding what we offer at our current facility.”

The Woman’s Choice Center’s reorganization is driven by two primary goals: protecting privacy and dignity; and expanding capacity to serve.

Separating medical services from resource services allows for a more private, calm and focused environment for patients during sensitive appointments and conversations, she noted.

“Centralizing medical care prepares us for future growth, including the potential to welcome additional providers, improve patient flow, and expand services,” Schaefer said. “One area we hope to grow is prenatal care, offering support for expectant mothers through 19 weeks of gestation. This transition also allows for expanding our educational programming, and community support would be very much appreciated.”
