Dear friends in Christ,
Lent is coming to an end. We are making our way through Holy Week; the Easter celebrations are close at hand!
Our 40 days of renewed attention to prayer, to times of fasting and abstinence, to caring for our neighbors through our almsgiving, have hopefully borne good fruit: we have tasted God’s mercy; we have been readied for the font. For our Elect, to be baptized, confirmed and receive Eucharist for the first time. For our candidates, to come into full communion with us through confirmation and Eucharist. For all the baptized, to renew our commitment to the Christian way of life.
The Triduum — Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil — lies at the heart of our Catholic faith and calendar. These feasts reveal to us, and help make us, who we are. We are a eucharistic people, sent to wash feet. We are a people who embrace the cross, called to care for those who today are still being crucified by suffering in all its forms: sickness and loneliness, poverty and injustice, war and hatred. We are an alleluia people, a people of hope. We cannot forget that!
During Eastertime, we delve more deeply into that hope. We journey with the women at the empty tomb, the first witnesses of the resurrection, as they struggle to makes sense of what they saw. We journey with the disciples on the road to Emmaus as their hearts burn and their eyes are opened. We journey with Thomas as he doubts, and as he comes to proclaim: “My Lord, and my God!” We are asked and commissioned along with Peter: “Do you love me? Then, feed my lambs, tend my sheep.” We are sent to proclaim and teach and baptize. Their stories are our stories. How? By the power of the Holy Spirit, given at Pentecost! We are never left alone!
We have fasted for 40; now let us feast for 50 — rejoicing in the gift of new life, resurrection life. And, as we feast, let us not be afraid to share our hope, our joy, and our love with others!

Queridos Amigos en Cristo,
La Cuaresma está llegando a su fin. Estamos haciendo nuestro camino a través de la Semana Santa; ¡las celebraciones de Pascua están cerca!
Esperamos que nuestros cuarenta días de renovada atención a la oración, a los tiempos de ayuno y abstinencia, al cuidado de nuestro prójimo a través de nuestra limosna, hayan dado buenos frutos: hemos probado la misericordia de Dios; nos hemos preparado para llegar a la Fuente de Vida. Por nuestros catecúmenos, quienes serán bautizados, confirmados y recibirán la Eucaristía por primera vez. Para nuestros candidatos, entrar en plena comunión con nosotros a través de la confirmación y la Eucaristía. Por todos los bautizados, para renovar nuestro compromiso con el estilo de vida cristiano.
El Triduo (Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo y Vigilia Pascual) se encuentra en el corazón de nuestra fe y calendario católicos. Estas fiestas nos revelan y nos ayudan a ser quienes somos. Somos un pueblo eucarístico, enviado a lavar los pies. Somos un pueblo abrazado a la cruz, llamado a cuidar de los que hoy siguen siendo crucificados por el sufrimiento en todas sus formas: enfermedad y soledad, pobreza e injusticia, guerra y odio. Somos un pueblo aleluya, un pueblo de esperanza. ¡No podemos olvidarlo!
Durante la Pascua, profundizamos en esa esperanza. Viajamos con las mujeres en la tumba vacía, las primeras testigos de la Resurrección, mientras luchan por dar sentido a lo que vieron. Acompañamos a los discípulos en el camino de Emaús mientras sus corazones arden y sus ojos se abren. Viajamos con Tomás cuando duda y cuando viene a proclamar: “¡Señor mío y Dios mío!” Se nos pregunta y se nos encarga junto con Pedro: “¿Me amas? Luego, apacienta mis corderos, apacienta mis ovejas”. Somos enviados a proclamar, enseñar y bautizar. Sus historias son nuestras historias. ¿Cómo? ¡Por el poder del Espíritu Santo, dado en Pentecostés! ¡Nunca nos dejan solos!
Hemos ayunado durante cuarenta días; ahora festejemos por cincuenta, regocijándonos en el don de la nueva vida, la vida de resurrección. Y, mientras festejamos, ¡no tengamos miedo de compartir nuestra esperanza, nuestra alegría y nuestro amor con los demás!
