Nathalie Denain paints the face of Ellie Stubbs as part of the Egyptian activities at Lourdes Catholic School in Bettendorf on April 29. Each year second-graders do a variety of activities such as building pyramids (out of cardboard boxes or sugar cubes), dressing as Egyptians and playing games as the culmination of their studies on Egypt. Teacher Amy Paul said the Passport through Egypt event has been going on since before she arrived at Lourdes 12 years ago. It is a “rite of passage here at Lourdes.”
