Sr. Marcia Costello, CHM, dies

DAVENPORT — Sister Marcia Costello, CHM, died June 3 at the Kahl Home in Davenport. She was 83.

Sr. Costello was born in 1931 to James Vincent and Florence (Neuhaus) Costello in Davenport. In 1953 she entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, professing vows in 1956. She received a BA in sociology from Marycrest College and an MA in American history from St. Louis University.

Her ministry of teaching included elementary schools at St. Patrick, Ottumwa; St. Mary, Centerville; and Our Lady of Lourdes, Bettendorf. She taught high school in Phoenix, Arizona; Aquinas, Fort Madison; and Assumption, Davenport. She worked in the development offices of Marycrest and Teikyo Marycrest University in Davenport. From 1995-2003, she was Director of Communications for the Congregation of the Humility of Mary. After retirement, she served as the volunteer diocesan coordinator of the Retirement Fund for Religious.

During her life, Sr. Costello was involved in some aspect of communication and considered her life ministry as a form of communication.

Mass of Christian Burial took place June 6 at Holy Family Church in Davenport, followed by burial at Mount Cavalry Cemetery in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
