Sharing God’s blessings: Visit diocese’s Planned Giving website

By Sr. Laura Goedken

I invite you to visit our planned giving website www.cfddgift.org which is part of our diocesan website. You will find articles there on a variety of topics. You can see an outline of the Tax Extenders bill passed by the Senate in early April. Many of us will rejoice when you realize that the IRA rollover as a donation could be available again. When that happens I will let you know.

On this website you can read about President Barack Obama’s tax return and his charitable giving. You can see that Vice President Joseph Biden gave to his own diocesan annual appeal. You are able to watch a series of short videos (two to three minutes in length) on planning your will. You will find bequest language for composing your will and the legal titles of all our parishes.

In recent weeks I had conversations with a variety of people on several related topics. I was asked why a person needs a will when she has made arrangements for transfer of everything to her son at her death. I gave an individual the necessary information to name the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Davenport as the final beneficiary of his IRA. I had a conversation with someone about charitable gift annuities. I emailed a booklet to several people which will help them gather the necessary information needed to go to an attorney to write a will.

I am sending out monthly email newsletters to those people whose email addresses we have. Send me your email address if you would like to receive this short newsletter. You can also contact me if you have any questions. It might be time to write or revisit your will.
