Show to exhibit artwork of Catholics from diocese

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sixteen artists from the throughout the Midwest will have their religious art on display at the third annual Magnify God’s Word Sacred Art Show and Sale. The event is Feb. 22 from 2-7 p.m. and Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Farrell Hall at St. Pius X Parish, 2901 24th St. The hall is located behind Jordan Catholic School.
“Aspiring, amateur and professional artists will be present to talk about their work and about God’s incarnate love and mercy,” said Jill Rodts, coordinator of the show and sale. “Art of Faith artwork includes traditional, devotional, inspirational and contemporary art. Artist demonstrations, poetry, vocal and instrumental performances will be held throughout the show.”
The 16 featured artists: Rita Tomanek of Iowa City, painting; Leanne Spacek of Marengo, Byzantine icon writing; Rodts, of Milan, Ill., painting, drawing, poetry; Cyndi Jarvis of Davenport, mixed media; Jeanette Doran of Eldridge, icons; Susan Marie Miller of Dubuque, calligraphy; Dennis Carlson of Rock Island, wood carving; Don Barry of Bettendorf, wood saw scrolling; Lois Hull of Geneseo, Ill., drawing, poetry; Paul Herrera of Milan, Ill., calligraphy; David Belitz of Murray, Neb., steel sculpture; Scott Schoonmaker of Moline, Ill., painting and woodworking; Gabby Schadt of Davenport, drawing; Alba Goebel of Chillicothe, Ill., portrait painting; Keith Bonnstetter of Bettendorf, paper cutting — snowflakes; and Chris Miguel of Bettendorf, drawing, sewing.
Featured musicians at the show: Feb. 22 from 2-3 p.m., Sharon Ade on piano, Mary Ade and Sarah Wallace as vocalists; 3-4 p.m., Harper’s Delight, five instrumental harps with Lydia Olson; 4-5 p.m., Lois Hull with poetry; and 5-6 p.m., Chris Dunn and John Miller on guitars and as vocalists. Feb. 23: from 9-10 a.m., Susan Marie Miller with poetry; 10-11 a.m., Lydia Olson with a harp solo; noon to 1 p.m., Shelley Walljasper on piano and Krianna Walljasper as vocalist; 1-2 p.m., Jerry Schroeder and Ben Schulter  on guitars and Jeremiah Schluter on the dulcimer.
The art show and sale are free, but freewill donations are accepted. Food will be available for purchase.
Twenty percent of the artists’ sales will support Art of Faith programs.
