Fr. Sheedy to be pastor of Solon parish

Bishop Martin Amos has announced that Father Tim Sheedy, 64, will become the pastor of St. Mary Parish in Solon. The assignment is effective July 1.
Fr. Sheedy, who currently serves as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Bettendorf, is a native of Ottumwa. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport with a B.A. in history and the University of Iowa with an M.A. in elementary administration. He completed his theology studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
On June 12, 1976, he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Gerald O’Keefe at St. Mary of the Visitation Church in Ottumwa.
Fr. Sheedy served as an associate pastor at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Davenport from 1976-81 and St. John the Baptist Parish in Burlington from 1981-84. He served as principal at St. Paul Elementary and St. John Middle School, both in Burlington, from 1981-84. He then served as pastor of Assumption Parish in Charlotte and St. Patrick Parish in Villa Nova from 1984-89. Fr. Sheedy served as interim principal at Holy Family School in Davenport from 1988-89. He was pastor of Our Lady of the River Parish in LeClaire from 1989-94 and pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Fort Madison from 1994-2004. Fr. Sheedy provided pastoral management for corporate affairs for St. Mary in Augusta through its closing. He has been pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Bettendorf since 2004.
On Dec. 12 Bishop Amos announced that Fathers Stephen Ebel, David Hitch, Robert McAleer and John Stecher would retire June 30. Father James Vrba will become pastor of St. John Vianney Parish in Bettendorf on July 1.
