Relics of martyred Mexican priests coming to diocese

Details have been finalized for an Iowa Knights of Columbus pilgrimage in the Diocese of Davenport featuring relics of six Mexican priests martyred during religious persecution in Mexico in the 1920s and 1930s. Martyred Fathers Pedro de Jesus Maldonado Lucero, Miguel de la Mora de la Mora, Jose Maria Robles Hutado, Luis Batiz Sainz, Rodrigo Augilar Aleman and Mateo Correa Magallanes will be honored during the pilgrimage. All six were members of Knights of Columbus councils in Mexico and were canonized in 2000 along with 19 other martyrs. The Davenport Diocese pilgrimage is the last stop on a month-long pilgrimage across Iowa.
Pilgrimage dates and times:
Nov. 23: Sacred Heart Church, Newton, 5:30 p.m. Exposition before and after 5:30 p.m. Mass.
Nov. 24: St. Mary Church, Pella, 10:30 a.m. Procession of relics in Sunday Mass. Exposition after Mass.
Nov. 25: KC Hall, Ottumwa, 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. – public veneration of relics; procession from KC Hall to Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Mary of the Visitation Church, Bishop Martin Amos presiding. After Mass, public veneration of the relics at St. Mary’s will be available for 45 minutes. A reception at the KC Hall will be held after Mass.
Nov. 26: Ss. John & Paul Parish, St. Paul Church, Burlington, 5:30 p.m. Exposition before and after 5:30 p.m. Mass.
Nov. 27: St. Mary of the Assumption Church, West Point, 5:30 p.m. Exposition before and after 5:30 p.m. Mass.
Nov 28: St. Patrick Church, Iowa City, 11 a.m. Exposition before and after Thanksgiving Mass.
Nov. 29: St. Patrick Church, Iowa City, 11 a.m. Exposition before and after Mass.
Nov. 30: Holy Family Church, Davenport, 4:30 p.m. Exposition before and after Saturday Mass.
Dec. 1: St. Mary Church, Davenport, 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. Exposition before and after Sunday Masses.
A Mexico City pilgrimage of the reliquary began in September 2005 to mark the centennial of the founding of the KCs in Mexico. The reliquary traveled throughout Mexico before arriving in the United States.
