How did you know you were being called to the diaconate? For me, being called to the diaconate was a slow process. I was first exposed to the diaconate when we moved to Burlington in the mid-1980s, when we joined what was then St. John the Baptist Parish. There were three deacons serving the parish at that time. The call to this vocation gnawed at me from that time, especially as all three of those deacons either passed away or moved to other parishes.
