Students offer prayers for Advent

Facebooktwittermail

Seventh- and eighth-graders in the Diocese of Davenport were invited to submit an original prayer for Advent to be published in The Catholic Messenger. Prayers reflect on a Scripture from one of the four Sundays of Advent: Dec. 2, 9, 16 and 23.
We are grateful for the response. Each week in Advent we will print two prayers selected from among the entries submitted.

Maddie Johnson

Maddie Johnson, St. Joseph Catholic School, DeWitt:
O’ Lord God, you are wonderful in your works and wise.
Pray for us, so that we may love one another just as you have loved us.
We come together today to praise your name on the Second Sunday of Advent.
We pray for our brothers and sisters that we may prepare the way for You.
We shall be thankful and grateful for what You have done for us.
We will believe that every day is a new day, so we should put aside our worries and live for you.
Let us follow your commands so that we may be welcomed into heaven. Amen.

Joy Ripslinger

Joy Ripslinger, John F. Kennedy Catholic School, Davenport:
Dear Jesus,
During this Advent season, help us to listen to your word and live out our lives as your disciples.
As we prepare for your second coming, guide us in the right path so that we can be ready for the Kingdom of Your Father.  For You are the ultimate gift to us, and we adore You.
You take away our sins and make us your children through baptism.
Help us to always remember that you are the source of all happiness and love.
You are the Shepherd and we are your flock, teach us the right way and make us worthy of your presence.  Amen.
