Joanne died Monday, November 19, 2012 at her residence in Bettendorf surrounded by her loving family. She passed in the comfort of her home following a brief illness.
Joanne Jane Osborn was born July 6, 1934 in Davenport, Iowa a daughter of James Joseph and Elizabeth G. (Collins) Osborn. She was united in marriage to John J. Carlin on August 31, 1957 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2008.
She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy, and then attended and graduated from Rosary College, Oak Park, Illinois. She earned a teaching degree from Rosary and had a brief, yet rewarding career in public education. She taught first in Iowa City and assisted children with special needs; this was an assignment that she felt blest to have had the opportunity to embark upon. She then taught in the Davenport Public School System. Soon after she and John began their family and she was fortunate enough to be home with her four delightful children.
Both Joanne and John were very civic minded, she volunteered at Holy Family School, and was active with the PTA during the children’s elementary years. John was the love of her life; they traveled extensively together and made many memories during these trips. They also wintered in Venice, Florida, something John enjoyed! Here at her home in Bettendorf she had many cherished memories; she found great comfort in her home. Although her greatest love was her family; spending time with the kids and grandchildren made her life complete. She looked forward to time spent together, as well as the daily, “check in” from the kids.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or to the Scott County Humane Society.
Those left to honor her memory include, a son and daughter-in-law, James T. and Laversa Carlin, Eldridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Steve Mahannah, Omaha, Nebraska, Mary and Porter McNeil, Moline, Illinois, and Jennifer Suiter, Davenport; ten beloved grandchildren, Andrea (Phil) Flannery, Sarah Carlin, Kaitlin Carlin, Meghan Mahannah, Molly Mahannah, James McNeil, Jack McNeil, Ellie McNeil, Matt Suiter, Michael Suiter, and Mitch Suiter; three great grandchildren, Noah Flannery, Brody Flannery and Scarlet Young; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, John, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Miller, and brother’s Gene Osborn and Ned Osborn. May they rest in peace.
