To the Editor:
I oppose the approval of zoning that would permit the building of the fertilizer plant near Walcott. Environmental impacts and hazards by far outweigh the short- and long-term economic benefits. Wallace Stegner, a writer and environmentalist, once said, “The earth does not belong to you. You belong to the earth.”
A poem titled “The Moment,” by Margaret Atwood echoes that theme.
We must be good stewards of the land. After all, we are only visitors.
