Referencing Frank Wessling’s editorial Aug. 2:
I think the Catholic bishops would better serve us and promote the Franciscan value of peace by advocating the removal from free society of those “angry, psychotic, vengeful Americans” who seek to commit mass murder in any manner, and get them help, or lock them up.
Gun laws have proven not to stop these people from acquiring guns or other tools of mass murder. However, guns have been proven to protect many lives, including stopping mass murders in progress. It was probably because of a gun law that none of the millions of responsible gun owners were “carrying a hidden gun in this public place.” I believe that even St. Francis would have approved if one of his latter-day followers had a weapon and stopped this.
Is this a more extremist view than coddling criminals and ignoring psychotic rantings and other warning signs of these prospective murderers?
