Mount Pleasant — St. Alphonsus Parish,  welcomes all Catholics to a parish mission titled “Uniting Our Community in Faith” Aug. 5-8.  Father Andy Meiners, a Redemptorist priest from Liguori, Mo., will lead four evenings of prayer, singing and reflections. LITURGY/PRAYER
Bettendorf – A centering prayer support group meets at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m. After centering prayer, participants will discuss the book “Taste of Silence.” For more information call Judy at (563) 355-0611.
Iowa City — Centering prayer groups meet from 7-8 p.m. Mondays at the Mercy Hospital chapel, and from 9-11:30 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month at a member’s home. For more information, call Maureen Kelley at (319) 338-8284.
Melrose — The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Mass begins at 8 a.m., followed by 24 hours of adoration, and closes with benediction at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. For more information or to sign up for an hour, call Tony Humeston at (641) 932-7709.
MEETINGS
Davenport —  Grieving adults are invited to attend Grief Support meetings at St. Anthony’s Parish Library on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The first of nine free, weekly sessions is Aug. 7. Participants may join on any day. For more information, call (563) 322-3303.
Moline, Ill. – The Secular Discalced Carmelite Community of St. Joseph and the Prophet Elijah invites people to join in the study of prayer in the tradition of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. Brighton – The Polishville annual bazaar will take place at the Polishville Community Center Aug. 5. A pork loin or turkey dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Bingo is from noon to 1:30 p.m. A raffle for four quilts and various gifts will take place at 2:15 p.m.
Clinton – The Catholic Historical Center at St. Boniface is open at 2520 Pershing Blvd. The museum contains numerous articles, pictures and memorabilia from the five previous Catholic parishes of Clinton, Mount St. Clare school and Our Lady of Angels school. St. Boniface, built in 1908, also contains the religious records of members of the five former parishes. The center is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon through August. People may stop by during that time or make an appointment for a tour by calling (563) 243-8033, (563) 242-6166 or (563) 243-3942.
Davenport – The 2012 Assumption Booster Club Golf Outing will take place Aug. 3 at Emeis Golf Course  at 1 p.m. Cost is $85 per golfer and includes dinner at Rookies sports bar. Dinner only is $25. Iowa City — The Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick Church will be collecting 5 cent redemption cans and bottles the third Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon. The collection will take place at the west side of St. Patrick Church near the entrance to the Day Chapel. No need to sort cans.  Proceeds benefit “Right to Life” organizations in Johnson County.
Mount Pleasant — St. Alphonsus Parish will celebrate its 150th anniversary Nov. 4. Plans include a Mass of Thanksgiving followed by a light supper in Manning Hall.
Pilot Grove — A Theology on Tap event  for young adults will take place Aug. 5 from 6-8 p.m. in the basement of Pilot Grove Savings Bank. Msgr. Marvin Mottet will present “Healing, Deliv­erance and Exorcism.” Bring a beverage.
