Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for John R. “Dick” Walsh, 95, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th St. Bettendorf.   Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the church.  Additional visitation will be on   Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mr. Walsh died Tuesday, May 08, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

John Richard Walsh was born December 2, 1916 in West Union, Iowa, the son of Robert Matthew and Anne Agnes (Carr) Walsh.  He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps with the 407th Air Service Group.

Dick was united in marriage to Berniece E. Stelzmiller June 20, 1945 in Boise, Idaho. He retired in 1981 as General Manager of New York Life Insurance Company’s Davenport, Iowa regional office.  Dick was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf and the Sales Executive Club of the Quad Cities, serving one term as President .  He enjoyed wood-working and working around his yard and home as well as sharing and supporting the interests of his children and grandchildren. Above all, he enjoyed the fine art of conversation with family, friends and even strangers he met during retirement travels to Europe, Ireland and to Elderhostels.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St John Vianney Church.

Survivors include his loving wife Berniece of 66 years, his six children and their spouses; James (JoAnn) Walsh, Elm Grove, WI, Thomas Walsh, Washington, D.C., Margaret Walsh, Bettendorf, Robert (Susan) Walsh, Fairfax Station, VA, Mary Jane (Michael) Deavers, Ashburn, VA, and Barbara (Jill) Walsh, Bettendorf; 7 grandchildren; and a sister-in law, Grace Walsh, West Des Moines, IA.

Dick was preceded in death by his sisters, Lenore King, Bernadette Walsh and brothers, Barney Walsh and Bob Walsh.  May they rest in peace.
