A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert A. Bempke, 77 of Davenport, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf.

Honoring his wishes, the rite of cremation has been accorded and private inurnment in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal will take place prior to services. Norb passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Trinity Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, surrounded by his family. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting his family with arrangements.

Norbert August Bempke was born May 18, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Walter and Lillian (Weiland) Bempke. He married Barbara Frandsen on July 2 1960, at St. Paul the Apostle  Catholic Church.

Norb was proud to have served our country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. as a Medic. Norb had worked 37 years in pharmaceutical sales with Abbott Labs, retiring in 1995.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either St. John Vianney Catholic Church or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Survivors include his wife of over 51 years Barb, and their children; three daughters and their spouses, Anne and Tim Rabbitt, Wappingers Falls, NY, Mary and David Daugherty, Brighton, MI and Susan and Mike Henessee, Wilton, IA; his beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Michael, Erin, Kayla, Thomas and Jon; his sister, Beatrice Bempke, Peoria, AZ, and a sister-in-law, Maureen Frandsen, LeClaire, and a brother-in-law, Robert Johnson, of Hartland, WI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Thomas Norbert and Robert Edgar, a sister, Lorraine Johnson and a brother-in-law, Robert Frandsen. May they rest in peace.
