Dylan Diewold and Andrew Schilling, seniors at Notre Dame Junior/Senior High School in Burlington, were first runners-up in the public forum competition at the Iowa High School Forensic League All Iowa Finals March 5-6.

In the competition at the University of Iowa, the students defeated teams from Davenport West, Des Moines Roosevelt and West Des Moines Valley high schools before losing a 2-1 decision to Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines. Thirty-one teams competed.

In January, Diewold and Schilling finished first runners-up in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s state debate tournament. Notre Dame’s speech and debate coach is Mary Jo Miller. This is Notre Dame’s first year participating in state debate competitions.
