Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Merle D. Jones, 55, were Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boies Ave. Davenport.

Burial was at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military rites conducted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299.

Merle died Saturday March 6, 2010, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 22, 1954 in Davenport, the son of Merle Leo Jones and Vera Marie (Ricke) Jones.

Merle served his county during the Vietnam War in the Navy. He was united in marriage to Kathleen L. Claeys, May 5, 1979 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove.

He was employed as an electrician for Local 145.

Merle loved watching TV, good food, and camping. His favorite shows were the Price is Right and Texas Rangers.

Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established in Merle’s name.

Survivors include his wife Kathleen, sons; David (Meghan) Jones, Oswego, Ill., and Michael (Julia) Jones, Davenport; grandchildren, Isabelle Jones and Brayden Jones; sisters, Linda (Gene) Schumacher, Bettendorf, and Pat (Fred) Ricketts, Blue Grass; brothers, Robert (Carol) Jones, Davenport and Kenneth (Judy) Jones, Davenport

Merle was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jane Jones Huff and Teresa Jones Walljasper and a stepmother, Evelyn Jones.
