Riverside parish to host Labor Day fest

RIVERSIDE — St. Mary Parish will host its annual Labor Day celebration Sept. 7. Menu options are a smoked Iowa chop dinner for $9 in advance or $10 at the door, a six-ounce chicken breast dinner for $8 in advance or $9 at the door, or a hot dog kid’s meal for $4 in advance or $5 at the door. Kids younger than 5 get a free hot dog meal. Dinners include mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade noodles, green beans, corn, coleslaw, applesauce, rolls, dessert and drink. Carryouts will be available to Riverside residents by calling (319) 648-2061. Meats will be prepared by Jerry & Margie’s Catering of Riverside.

Entertainment includes square dancing, crafts, farmer’s market, bingo and horseshoes. Sign-up starts at 12:30 p.m. for horseshoes. A tractor pull begins at 1 p.m.; sign-up is from noon to 1 p.m. The event also includes kids’ games and an obstacle course. An auction starts at 2:30 p.m. During the auction, a raffle will take place for 20 items worth a total of more than $600. A millennium raffle will offer a grand prize of $1,500, second prize of $1,000, a $250 prize, three $500 prizes and 10 $100 prizes.
