Dave died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. He died following a courageous battle with cancer; he was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

David Laurence Anderson was born May 25, 1938 in Davenport a son of LeRoy Hartwin and Grace Dorothy (Geurtsen) Anderson.

He was a 1956 graduate of Davenport High. He then entered the U.S. Navy, and proudly served our country aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet.

He was united in marriage to Muriel J. Swanson and from this union four children were born. He then married Diane Kay Stewart. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1994.

Dave was a Sheet Metal worker in the Heating and Air Conditioning Industry. He worked for several local HVAC companies; as well as establishing his own business Eldridge Heating and Air Conditioning. Dave then worked several years for the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, serving as director of Buildings and Grounds. It was during this working relationship that he developed many close friendships with the sisters of the Humility of Mary, which endured until his time of passing.

Dave cherished his “garage time.” He was a talented mechanic and automobile restorer. If his garage door was open friends knew they were invited to stop in and have a “safety meeting”! He restored many fine cars during his lifetime, and was proudest of his 1923 Ford T-bucket.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Congregation of the Humility of Mary or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah and Tony Plies and Doris L. Moreno, all of Davenport; and sons, David Michael Anderson, Davenport; and Mark David Anderson, Chicago; grandchildren, Kimberly, Grant, Baylee, Henry and Bonnie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Marelu Anderson, Davenport and Richard and Joyce Anderson, Blue Grass, Iowa, and a special friend and care giver, Judy Wheeler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Grace. May they rest in peace.
