Louis B. Coen, 90, of Burlington, died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Burlington Care Center. 

Born April 26, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Purrill and Mary Hurley Coen. On Jan. 23, 1937, he married Virginia M. Springsteen in Burlington. She died Jan. 18, 2009. 

He was an upholsterer for Bailey’s Upholstery Shop on Maple Street. In 1970 he started as a maintenance man at Autumn Heights and retired at the age of 66.

He was a member of Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church. He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed yardwork and spending time with his family.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Goldie) Coen of Burlington, and Thomas (Cathy) Coen of Clatskanie, Ore.; one daughter, Judith (James) Abrisz of Houston; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Homer) Horras of Willard, Mo.; and Kay (Lloyd) Buch of Fairfield, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Lloyd Coen, and one daughter, Patricia Carman.

A memorial has been established for Ss. John & Paul Catholic Church.

The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home was in care of the arrangements.
