CLINTON — The Clinton Ministerial Association (CMA) will again sponsor the entire Gateway area observance of the annual “Church Unity Octave” in Clinton.

This year the association is planning an inspirational worship service that celebrates the oneness shared through faith by all Christians.

“Join us for worship at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Jan. 23 for a one-hour service,” said the Rev. Elizabeth Liggett, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton, and president of CMA, in her invitation. At least a dozen congregations, representing various Christian denominations, are joining in the planning for the ecumenical celebration of the Word of God, she revealed.

Begun in 1908, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated each year in cities and towns across the country and around the world.  The theme for the 2011 observance is centered on the following “Testament:”

In order to unite with one another, we must love one another; in order to love one another, we must know one another; in order to know one another, we must go and meet one another.

The theme and text for each year’s observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity are chosen and prepared by representatives of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and representatives of the World Council of Churches.

The Jan. 23 service in Clinton is being planned by a committee including Clinton Franciscan Sister Mary Smith who, along with Sister Rosalie Noder, represents the congregation at CMA.

“Memorable and thought-provoking symbols will enhance the three different messages of the theme during this special service,” explained Sr. Smith. “All are welcome and we hope Christians of all denominations will participate.”
