Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Georgetta Ruth Laake, 91, a resident of Davenport will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th St., Bettendorf.  

Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 2 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home with prayers offered at 4 p.m. to begin the visitation. There will also be an additional visitation Wednesday morning at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Georgetta died Monday, Nov.1, 2010 at the Davenport Lutheran Home after a brief illness.

Georgetta Ruth Naber was born Sept. 9, 1919 in Muscatine, the daughter of George Henry and Helen Leona (Barber) Naber. She was united in marriage to Francis H. “Fran” Laake, June 25, 1938, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Georgetta was a long-time member and was very active at St. Joseph’s. She was a former member of St. Joseph’s Christian Mothers Society and Mercy Hospital/Genesis Auxiliary.

Georgetta was the manager of the drapery department for Sears & Roebuck Co for over 20 years. Sewing was her passion, having started her own sewing business, with her sister-in-law, Rose Laake, out of her home before going with Sears.  

Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research.

Survivors include her daughter Carole Six, Bettendorf, a son James (Kathleen) Laake, Charleston, Ill., seven grandchildren: Lynne Miller, Kevin Six, Jill Meyer, Jason Laake, Curtis Laake, Aaron Laake and Tim Laake, 11 great-grandchildren, and sisters, Dorothy Thomas, Spring Grove, Ill. and Bonnie Hynes, Davenport.     

Georgetta was preceded in death by her husband, Fran, an infant son, Jerry Laake, a brother George Naber, and a son-in-law, Harold Six.
