DAVENPORT — A belief that strong Catholic families are the foundation of a vibrant Church led Lisa Willows to apply for the Diocese of Davenport’s marriage and family life coordinator position. She started July 6 and fills the shoes of Marianne Agnoli who retired.
“I am committed to accompanying couples and families as they grow in faith and helping parishes create welcoming communities where every family feels supported,” said Willows. “My ministry experience, combined with my personal experience as a parent and grandparent of individuals with special needs, has strengthened my desire to serve families with compassion, inclusion and hope.”
As marriage and family life coordinator, her priorities are to support and strengthen Catholic marriages and families by providing resources, leadership and formation for parishes. “I would focus on marriage preparation, family faith formation, leadership development, collaboration with parish staff and volunteers, and ensuring that all families — including those with disabilities and special needs — feel welcomed, valued, and connected to the life of the Church.”
Willows has worked with parishioners of all ages, coordinated faith-based programs and supported individuals with diverse needs.
“My personal experience advocating for family members with special needs has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges many families face and the importance of creating opportunities where everyone can participate fully in parish life. I also bring strong organizational skills, collaborative leadership, and a commitment to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.”
She has had various roles at Our Lady of Victory Parish in Davenport. She began as the faith formation assistant in 2011 and later evolved to serving as confirmation coordinator. In 2017 she changed roles, becoming the parish’s director of communications. This position gave her the opportunity to “tell the stories of our parish community, strengthen our communications efforts and help connect people more fully to the life and mission of the Church.”
“I look forward to building relationships with parish leaders, clergy, volunteers and families throughout the diocese,” Willows said. “I am excited to listen to their needs, share resources and develop programs that strengthen marriages, support parents and encourage families to live their faith at home and within their parish communities. I also look forward to expanding opportunities for inclusion so that every family experiences the love and welcome of Christ.”
“Above all, I want to help families encounter Christ, deepen their faith, and become active witnesses of God’s love in their homes, parishes, and communities.”
Willows and her husband Rick have three children: Brittany (Dorrell) Wenninger in Bend Oregon; USAF Major Ashley (Jeremy) Jacobsen, and their children, Carver and Ava, in Tampa, Florida; and Jacob Willows.
