Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Sharing and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ is vital in a world overwhelmed with mixed and confusing messages. The Catholic Messenger delivers a clear message — in print and digital media — that places the Good News within the context of the lived experience of the faithful.

The Catholic Messenger has adapted and responded to the communication needs of the faithful of our diocese throughout its 142-year history. Its longevity is proof that the publication is an effective resource to inform, educate and inspire us as we go out and share the Good News with others.

The Messenger’s multimedia platform provides the news based on our preferences: weekly print and/or e-editions; website, updated with breaking news; an e-newsletter published twice a month; and a monthly podcast. The Messenger also posts regularly on Facebook and Instagram and shares stories that you share on those social media platforms.

Young adult columnists, including Evangelization Director Patrick Schmadeke, Social Media Coordinator Sarah Callahan, St. Louis University student and diocesan native Sam Aitchison, and Jenna Ebener, among others, add breadth and depth to inspire readers. Father Thom Hennen’s Question Box column expands on and enriches the offerings contained in The Messenger.

You can also expect in-depth coverage about the next Bishop of the Diocese of Davenport after the Vatican announces that appointment. Look forward to gaining new ideas while reading articles about parishes’ creativity in fostering a sense of welcoming and belonging. Get inspired from the stories The Messenger tells of Catholics living their faith in in the world. Learn about legislative issues through The Messenger’s collaboration with the Iowa Catholic Conference.

This month, parishes kick off the 2024 subscription drive. To help encourage more people to subscribe to The Catholic Messenger — print and/or e-edition — we are providing free access to our e-edition through Feb. 14. Visit the website at www.catholicmessenger.net and click on the e-edition icon.

No other media, print or digital, covers the Catholic Church in our diocese with the expertise and integrity of The Catholic Messenger. It is a real value at $30 per year for 50 issues — print, e-edition or both. Watch for the subscription drive in your parish.

Sincerely in Christ,

Very Rev. Kenneth E. Kuntz
Diocesan Administrator of Davenport
