Letter to the Editor: The Holy Spirit will prevail

To the Editor:

What I know about the World Synod of Bishops I have learned from reading The Catholic Messenger. My experience of participating at the parish level left me encouraged about our Church. I believe our bishop has done a fantastic job of implementing the synod as Pope Francis has asked. However, I do have some concerns.

I actually live in another diocese. My friends tell me their experience of synod was to go online and read statements and then indicate whether they agree or disagree. There is neither listening involved nor input on their part. I am a Korean War veteran and go to the VA medical facility in a different state twice a year. While there, we visit our daughter who is an usher for the Saturday Mass in her parish. I am not aware of any mention of a synod there. So I wonder how many bishops in the world are simply ignoring the pope. What will they say when they get to Rome?  How will this affect the synod?

I do believe the Holy Spirit will prevail.
