For The Catholic Messenger
On Nov. 27 St. Mary-Mechanicsville’s religious education program presented a live nativity for parish and community members. Students, teachers and volunteers spent two chilly Sunday mornings setting up the nativity and preparing to tell the story of Jesus’ birth.
The evening began with Knights of Columbus serving coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. High school students told the nativity story and the younger students — in costume — portrayed Gabriel, Mary, Joseph, the innkeeper, shepherds, a heavenly host of angels, and the three wise men. The nativity also included a donkey, two ewes, a steer and a heifer. The evening ended with a visit from one of Santa’s elves, who handed out candy bags for the children.
