To the Editor:
Thank you, Bishop (Thomas) Zinkula, for your prompt and pointed response to readers of The Catholic Messenger who think the issue of gender dysphoria is too rare to be addressed in our diocesan newspaper. (Messenger 12/16/21, P. 1) Indeed, you cited two fundamental attitudes that Pope Francis asks for as we launch the 2023 Synodal process: 1) Jesus teaching that the one lost sheep — a loved one at the margins — is worth risking the other 99, and 2) all of us, as Church, must “listen before teaching.” They are worth repeating over and over.
