DAVENPORT — As voting on Election Day, Nov. 3, winds down, Sacred Heart Cathedral will offer a Mass at 5:30 p.m., followed by a holy hour praying for peace in the world.
Father Rich Adam, pastor and rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral, said a parishioner suggested the idea. “I appreciated his thoughts and really felt that was a good idea.”
The pastor said the date and time of the prayer hour occur in the final hours of the voting process. “Regardless of any outcome, there is always need for prayer in our world and in our nation,” Father Adam said. “We see this especially with the civil unrest that has plagued our country this summer and the divisiveness among so many people.”
He noted that a couple weeks ago the daily Gospel reading centered on an accusation that Jesus drove out a demon through the power of Beelzebub. Jesus responded, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house.”
“Those words echo loudly in our own time as our country faces uncertain times ahead,” Father Adam said. “Since 1953, ‘In God We Trust’ has been the official motto of our country and it is time we turn to God and pray for peace, for healing from the pandemic, for the conversion of sinners, for our church, for families, for our youth and the list goes on and on and on.”
“As our parishioner who made this request put it, ‘We need to put God back in the equation of life, right Father?’ I don’t think I could have said it any better, thus Mass and time for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 5:30 p.m. Let us pray!!”
