Scout rendezvous set for December

ILLINOIS CITY, Ill. — Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venture Crew scouts, Camp Fire and American Heritage Girls from the Diocese of Davenport are invited to a scout rendezvous with scouts from the Diocese of Peoria, Ill.

The Diocese of Peoria will host the rendezvous Dec. 2-4 at Camp Loud Thunder, 9906 175th St. W., Illinois City. The camp is located about five miles west of Andalusia off of Illinois 92.

Linda Atherton, chairperson of the Diocese of Peoria Committee on Scouting, said scouts ages 11 and younger are invited to activities Dec. 3. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and they can stay until 5 p.m. Rosary and Mass begin at 7 p.m. if the younger scouts are interested.

Scouts ages 11 and older can attend the whole weekend, which begins Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. and concludes Dec. 4 at 9 a.m.
Denise McMonagle of the Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Davenport said all scouts are invited to attend the rendezvous. Members of the Davenport Diocese will be in attendance. “I think this will be a great opportunity for us to gather and celebrate the gift that scouting is to the church and to each of us,” McMonagle said.

Small group and large group activities are scheduled for Saturday. The large group activities include instruction on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is Dec. 8.

Games and crafts also will be available. Older scouts will have time to work on religious emblems, take part in a scavenger hunt, attend vespers and watch a movie. Registered adults and leaders are needed for the event to meet scouting and diocesan policies, especially for those staying overnight.
Camp Loud Thunder has cabin camping with wood stoves and heated dining hall and meeting room. Cost for the event is $15 per person for Saturday-only events, which includes lunch and activity fees. Cost for the whole weekend is $25 per person, which includes meals, lodging and activities. An event patch is included.
