A change in direction

To the Editor:
Back in 1969 I entered Holy Redeemer College, a Redemptorist seminary near Waterford, Wis. Three months later I was asked to leave because I didn’t fit in since they were “about to go in a different direction.” Then in 1985 Holy Redeemer closed after only 17 years of operation.
Recently while watching the news, I saw that over at Alleman High School in Rock Island, Ill., a religion teacher of over 30 years is being fired because the school is about to go in a “different direction,” whatever that means. I saw her situation as similar to mine.
It will be interesting to see if Alleman’s future enrollment is affected by this. This morning at Mass I thought of this fine lady when I heard the verse before the Gospel, “Blessed are those persecuted for justice sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
