Gun laws need to be passed by Congress

To the Editor:
I am glad things turned out well for Mike McCoy and also that he recognizes the importance of the Second Amendment.
I am disappointed to see that the Messenger uses his story to praise the un-constitutional overreach of the president via executive orders!
Just one example of the consequences of these kinds of executive orders would be a scenario where a returning war veteran seeks help for stress. Although he recovers quickly, his treatment has been recorded in a data base and he is flagged for receiving mental treatment. Because of this he loses his gun rights for life! He can’t even legally visit a friend in his home if there is a gun in the home! After having fought to protect our republic’s freedom and liberties he becomes a big loser of them.
There is a reason that laws need to be passed by an elected Congress and must be able to pass the scrutiny of the Supreme Court as to their constitutionality.
