Former teacher, Sister Foley, dies at 95

JOHNSTON, Iowa — Sister Mary Corrine Foley, CHM, 95, died on Nov. 6 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston.

Mary Emma Foley was born to Matthew and Emma Angerer Foley on June 29, 1920, in Hills. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in 1938 and professed vows in 1941.

Sister Mary Corrine graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport and taught in Iowa, Montana and Arizona. The Iowa schools included St. Anthony and St. Pius in Des Moines, Sacred Heart in West Des Moines, St. Joseph in Dunlap, Georgetown Public in Georgetown, St. Joseph in Neola and St. Patrick in Ottumwa. She was a science teacher and a lover of nature. Sister also provided home health care for her family in Belle Plaine. She retired to Humility of Mary Center in 2008 and moved to Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in 2014.

Visitation was scheduled for Nov. 10 at the Humility of Mary Center, Davenport. Her funeral Mass was to be celebrated Nov. 11 at the Humility of Mary Center with burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
