Davenport — On June 17, St. Ambrose University will host an author talk by New York Times best-selling author Donald Harstad, a retired county sheriff from Elkader, Iowa. Harstad will speak at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the SAU Library on campus. The talks are free and open to the public.

Drawing from 23 years of law enforcement experience, Harstad has written five crime novels starring Deputy Sheriff Carl Houseman, who patrols the towns in and around a fictional Iowa county. Harstad’s first novel, “Eleven Days,” was nominated for an Anthony award and in 2000, was sold to Warner Brothers Theatrical Film Division.

Harstad’s books are published in nine languages and can be found in 20 countries. His sixth novel, “November Rain,” will be available in September.
