Working to end poverty in the U.S.

Facebooktwittermail

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has come to the aid of communities nationwide for over 40 years in an effort to eradicate poverty. During World Youth Day on July 25, 2013, Pope Francis told us to “never tire of working for a more just world, marked by greater solidarity.” CCHD puts these words into action by funding housing, education and the development of job opportunities.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development’s efforts are funded almost entirely through an annual parish collection that will take place on Nov. 22-23. Twenty-five percent of the donations stay in our diocese to fight poverty in our communities and defend the dignity of our neighbors. Currently, two local initiatives are receiving some national grant funding from CCHD as well as some support from the local funding: Quad Cities Interfaith in Davenport and Interfaith Worker Justice Center of Eastern Iowa in Iowa City. To learn more about the work being done by these two groups visit the Video Section on The Catholic Messenger website www.catholicmessenger.net.
CCHD grants to local and national anti-poverty efforts are screened, awarded and monitored in close partnership with CCHD and the diocese.
For more information about the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and the groups it funds, visit www.usccb.org/ nationalcollections and click on CCHD.
Please join me in solidarity with CCHD to put an end to poverty in our community and nation. Each of us should be grateful for our blessings and show our gratitude by helping to make a real difference in the lives of our fellow human beings. Your support will help to defend human dignity and take poverty off the map.
May God bless you for your generosity.

Trabajando para terminar la pobreza en USA

CMC-podcast-ad

Sincerely in Christ,
Sinceramente en Cristo,
