RICHLAND — Ss. Joseph & Cabrini Parish’s Family Life Commission is hosting a marriage enrichment retreat Nov. 16 at the Mother Cabrini Parish Hall.
Shirley Van Dee, parish life coordinator, said diocesan couples of all ages are welcome to attend the event, which aims to help couples grow in their love for each other and for God.
“It’s good for couples to take time to be with themselves and concentrate on their love for each other,” said Van Dee.
The retreat will be directed by IlaMae Hanisch, retired diocesan marriage and family life coordinator. Activities will focus on the “triangle three, the woman, man, and God,” and rediscovering the love husbands and wives have for each other, Van Dee said.
Couples attending the retreat will not need to share personal information with the larger group. Instead, Van Dee said they will be given lessons or topics to discuss individually as couples.
Van Dee said the parish hosted a similar retreat several years ago, which brought in couples from throught the diocese and as far away as Washington. “Everyone was so enthused about it,” she recalled. The Family Life Commission decided to host the event again this year as a tie-in to 2014 as Year of the Family in the Catholic Church.
The event starts at 2 p.m., and ends with a pork chop dinner at 4:30. Cost of the dinner is $10, and guests are asked to reserve a spot by Nov. 12 by calling (319) 456-3161.
