The Academy for the Study of St. Ambrose of Milan will present Birthday of a Book: a Venetian edition of St. Ambrose’s de Officiis, published Dec. 4, 1514, on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel.
Brian Berni, Welsh-Italian paleographer, will lead us in an integrated interdisciplinary exploration, presenting his transcription/translation of the extensive hand written marginalia by as many as four different owners of the book. What can we learn about these people? What were they writing about? What did they see in Ambrose?
A panel of SAU’s own scholars will flesh out the world of Ambrose and the world of the text.
