Mildred Bombei, age 89, of Keota, died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Mildred was born June 23, 1924, in rural Sigourney, to Elmer and Lottie (Ahrens) Hauschild and attended country school. On November 12, 1945, she married Raymond Bombei at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek Township. The couple lived south of Keota and Mildred worked at Amana Refrigeration for 32 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society. Mildred enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, traveling, following the Bruegge Band and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include her sisters-in-law: Alfretta “Babe” Hauschild of What Cheer, Marie Redlilnger of Keota, Mary Lou Walker of Washington and Virginia Bombei of Sigourney; brother-in-law: Herbert (Loretta) Bombei of Keota; many nieces and nephews and special friends: Ed and Nikki Bruegge of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond in 2005; brother: Roy Hauschild; sister: Bernadine Slechta; brothers-in-law: Vernon Slechta, Howard Bombei, Richard Bombei, Robert Bombei, Daryl Redlinger, Hubert Sheetz and Jim Walker and sister-in-law: Philomena Sheetz.

Memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Holy Trinity Cemeteries – Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m until service time at Ss. Peter and Paul Church of Clear Creek Township. There will be a time of fellowship following the service in the basement of Ss. Peter and Paul Church of Clear Creek Township.
