The Catholic Messenger has received third place for best front page (broadsheet division) in the 2013 Catholic Press Awards contest. The front-page award recognized the work of Catholic Messenger staffers Anne Marie Amacher, Celine Klosterman and Barb Arland-Fye. This is the third year in a row that The Catholic Messenger has received a third-place award for best front page.
Award winners were announced June 21 at the 2013 Catholic Media Conference in Denver, Colo. The contest is a project of the Catholic Press Association (CPA) of the United States and Canada, which represents more than 600 member organizations. Member organizations include more than 130 diocesan newspapers competing in one of three divisions based on circulation: small, 1-17,000; mid-sized, 17,001-40,000; and large, 40,001+. The Catholic Messenger is in the mid-sized division. Best front page is judged on newspaper format — broadsheet or tabloid — rather than circulation size.
Others who contributed to The Catholic Messenger’s success for this award were staff members Nancy Hamerlinck, Tony Forlini, Corbin Jensen, volunteer proofreader Father Tom Stratman and former staffer Kathy Weiss.
