Listening to the Pleasant Valley High School Band play Pomp and Circumstance during its 2013 commencement program May 26 evoked bittersweet feelings in me.
As a spectator in the stands witnessing the conclusion of a 12-year chapter in my youngest child’s life, I reflected on a collection of memories leading to this day.
How did that first-grader with big brown eyes behind gold-rimmed glasses visiting me at The Catholic Messenger become the fine young man walking across the stage wearing cap and gown, the tassel on his mortar board swishing to and fro?
