To the Editor:
One of Frank Wessling’s arguments to diminish our Second Amendment rights is the claim that people are less safe if there are guns in their home (“Messenger Editorial” Jan. 24). Try floating that theory to the mother of two young children who, after retreating as far as she could, shot an intruder and stopped him from murdering them, because she had a gun available in her home!
I have no faith in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention promoting more gun laws (20,000-plus and counting) that fail to make moral people out of murderers. Maybe the CDC should focus on mental issues that are a factor in every mass killing, and most suicides by gun, the largest percentage of gun deaths!
The guns that Mr. Wessling dubs as “military style” are efficient tools for protection from rapists, rioters, murders and even a tyrannical government, the wise intent of the Second Amendment to the Constitution by our forefathers. These guns have a rightful place in this dangerous society.
