The waiting of Advent is almost over

Seventh- and eighth-graders in the Diocese of Davenport were invited to submit an original prayer for Advent to appear in The Catholic Messenger. We have published two prayers each week of Advent, concluding our series today.

For all of us who suffer, for all of us who wait, for all of us who need comfort, for all of us waiting at the Heavenly gate, for all of us who need rest, for all of us who need hope, and for all of us who need you to help us be our best may we find You.
Just as John leapt for joy when Jesus, his cousin, was near, let us rejoice to the Lord, our God. Of his wondrous works let us sing and praise.
When Elizabeth was visited by Mary she recognized God’s presence right away. So, let us be like Elizabeth and recognize God today.
When we think of the mercy and love and all good things in this world, may we remember it all comes from God, almighty, above. Amen.
By Rachel Thomas, eighth grade,  John F. Kennedy Catholic School, Davenport.

O Lord God, my shepherd, you alone are the holy one. We your humble servants come to worship you during Advent. For we know that without Jesus Christ, your only Son, the gates of heaven would be locked up and no one could enter. We thank you for sending him, and we all wait for his second coming in hope and joy. We thank you and ask for blessings in the name of Jesus Christ, our Emmanuel. Amen.
