To the Editor:
With regard to Frank Wessling’s editorial “Must Guns Always Win?” I would answer “yes” as long as a majority of people are of the same opinion as the two writers in the “Readers’ Opinions” section of the Aug. 16 edition of the Messenger.
We are a violent society that claims to love peace. We don’t want the wrong people to have guns, but more and more states are passing right to carry laws. We want government to do more to keep us safe and yet we don’t like the government telling us what to do. We know that mental illness is a serious problem, but are unwilling to pay the taxes necessary to adequately fund the proper care for all those who need it.
As a society we reap what we sow. If we want different results, we need to change our way of doing things. We need to become more Christ-like.
