DAVENPORT – The Diocese of Davenport is one of six dioceses across the United States to be chosen as an example for good accounting practices.
The Accounting Practices Committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) selected the Davenport Diocese in the medium-size category.
Char Maaske, chief financial officer for the Davenport Diocese, said the diocese was selected because of its disclosure and transparency practices. She said the diocese follows the Accounting Practice Committee’s general principles.
She said the diocese has good internal controls that would raise awareness about potential fraud. The diocese also is audited by an independent, outside firm. Once the audit is complete, it is posted on the diocesan website at www.davenportdiocese.org and in The Catholic Messenger.
