Catholics in the Diocese of Davenport are invited to design a diocesan logo for the Year of Faith that will be celebrated Oct. 11, 2012, to Nov. 24, 2013.
The Year of Faith is a celebration of the universal Church that begins on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and concludes on the feast of Christ the King.
The Holy Father announced the Year of Faith to confront secularism and other challenges and to encourage Catholics to rediscover the faith and the “joy and enthusiasm of the encounter with Christ.”
The Year of Faith focuses on the New Evangelization, which is an effort to rekindle the faith of Catholics, whether practicing or not.
In publicizing announcements about Year of Faith activities in the Davenport Diocese, Bishop Martin Amos decided a logo would help reinforce the celebration’s theme.
As a result, The Catholic Messenger is launching a logo contest that is open to Catholics of any age. The winner will receive dinner with Bishop Amos and the privilege of having his or her logo appear on diocesan and Messenger communications for the Year of Faith.
Entries should capture the essence of the celebration and reflect the fact that the logo is for the Davenport Diocese, which encompasses 22 counties in southeast Iowa. A logo is a representation or a symbol; it is not a mural or poster.
Logo designs should be created in color, and the words Diocese of Davenport must appear in the logo. A printed copy or PDF needs to be submitted by Sept. 14 to The Catholic Messenger at 780 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport, Iowa, 52804, or via email at messenger@davenportdiocese.org.
