Clinton – The Sisters of St. Francis will welcome Deb Dawson of the African Soul, American Heart Foundation on Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at The Canticle, 841 13th Ave. N. She was inspired by the story of “Lost Boy” Joseph Akol Makeer to help establish a boarding facility for orphan girls in Sudan.  As a boy, Joseph  walked across Africa to escape genocide in South Sudan. Dawson will provide an update on the organization’s efforts to help rebuild and provide food, housing, clothing, and access to education and health care for children victimized by violence in their homeland.
Davenport — People are invited to the “Life in the Spirit” seminar at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. from July 5 to Aug. 23. An explanation and sign-up session with Msgr. Marvin Mottet is Thursday, June 21, from 7–8 p.m. in the church’s gathering space. This seminar will be presented by members of the Blessed Trinity Prayer Group consisting of parishioners from Bettendorf and Davenport parishes. Fee is $10. Babysitting will be provided. LITURGY/PRAYER
Bettendorf – A centering prayer support group meets at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m. After centering prayer, participants will discuss the book “Taste of Silence.” For more information call Judy at (563) 355-0611.
Davenport —  Sacred Heart Cathedral is celebrating Saturday night Mass at 5 p.m. from May 26 to Sept. 1. The sacrament of reconciliation will be offered an hour before, at 4 p.m.  During the fall and winter months, Saturday night Mass will be held at 4 p.m.
Davenport — Several events are slated at Eagles’ Wings, 5816 Telegraph Road. On June 2, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., is Healing Ministry Workshop 4. Registration is $80. On June 8 and 22, 7 p.m., is a Soaking With a Purpose meeting. On June 12, 1 p.m., is a healing Mass. On June 14, 10 a.m. to noon, is prophetic art day for children, for a donation. Call to register. Hills —  A healing Mass with Msgr. Marvin Mottet,  Father William Kneemiller and Father Troy Richmond will be celebrated Friday, June 1, at St. Joseph Church.  Confessions start at 6 p.m. and Mass at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
MEETINGS
Davenport — The St. Anthony Church grief group facilitators offer a 9-week Grief Support Group. Moline, Ill. – The Secular Discalced Carmelite Community of St. Joseph and the Prophet Elijah invites people to join in the study of prayer in the tradition of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. RETREATS
Wheatland — Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat will offer several events in June. “What is Good Food Today?” is June 7 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The day will include discussion on a food revolution and offer healthy cuisine from local growers. Fee: $30. Private or directed retreats are available from Sunday, June 10, at 7 p.m.  to the following Friday at noon. Bettendorf – Humility of Mary Housing is hosting a family night of activities at the Family Museum Saturday, June 9, 5–8 pm.  The cost is $5 per person, which includes admission and many exhibits, food and entertainment.  Funds raised will support the continued work of Humility of Mary Housing for single-parent families who have experienced homelessness.  For more information, call (563) 326-1330.
Bettendorf – The Women’s Choice Center of the Quad Cities will hold a “Gathering for Life” to share information about the center on Thursday, June 21, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The gathering will be in the conference room of the center, 2711 Happy Joe Drive. Attendees will receive a ministry update, meet the staff, hear a client testimonial, tour the facility and clinic, see a live ultrasound and receive light refreshments. Clinton – The Catholic Historical Center at St. Boniface will host a ceremony June 2 at 11 a.m. to recognize the center’s acceptance into the National Register of Historic Places.  The center is located at 2520 Pershing Blvd.
Davenport —  The Father Ken Martin Golf Outing and dinner will be held Aug. 29 at Emeis Golf Course.  Funds raised assist families facing a financial crisis that may force them to take their children out of a Scott County Catholic school.
