Shirley Jean Dipple was born August 1, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa, a daughter of Ira and Velma (Wainscott) Dipple.  She graduated from Davenport High in 1950 and St. Ambrose School of Nursing in 1953.  She received her BSN degree in 1983 from St. Ambrose College.  Shirley was united in marriage to Joseph H. Stuckel on April 24, 1954 at St. Alphonsus Church, Davenport.  They have shared almost 58 years of marriage and memories together.

Shirley was employed from 1953 to 1966 at Mercy Hospital (Genesis West) on the Obstetrics & Nursery floor.  She retired in 1994 following 27 years as a nurse in the Davenport parochial and public schools.

Shirley was passionate about life, the love of family, friends, and those in need.  She was a rock solid caregiver.  She enjoyed traveling the country with her husband, Joe, and at the top of the list was attending their grandchildren’s various activities.  Shirley enjoyed her ceramics hobby, creating many pieces over the years that she shared with family and friends.  Through the years she enjoyed boating, fishing, dancing, Iowa State basketball games, and even her grand dogs.   She never missed sending family and friends a special occasion card, and she always had a smile on her face.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or Genesis Hospice.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Joe, and their children and spouses; Sharon (Greg) Wales, Davenport, Gary (Janine) Stuckel, Muscatine, Mark (Kari) Stuckel, Storm Lake, IA, Julie (Jeff) Berndt, Mankato, MN; 9 grandchildren, Christopher (Alishia) Wales, Sarah Henderson, Tiffany (Brad) Dodds, Travis (fiancée Natasha) Stuckel, Kathleen Stuckel, Abigail Stuckel, Joe Stuckel, Paul Berndt and Emily Berndt; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Wales; sisters Bev Oake  and Peggy (Jerry) Dykes; a brother-in-law Don Bys, all of Davenport; a sister-in-law Mary (Gary) Ruhberg, Sioux Falls, SD, and many nieces and nephews.
